For those who appreciate a good pair of headphones, finding the perfect pair of headphones is not an easy task. While audio quality probably is right up there in what to look out for, there are many other factors to consider. The AIAIAI TMA-2 Modular Headphones make finding that perfect pair of headphones a little easier by allowing the user to customize four important components of a pair of headphones –  headbands, cables, speaker units and earpads.

Modular headphones are not completely new but prior to the AIAIAI TMA-2 Modular Headphones, customization options are mainly for cosmetic purposes. Originally, Danish company AIAIAI produced the TMA-1 series of headphones, with each model in the series designed for a specific user group from DJs to studio headphones. With the AIAIAI TMA-2 Modular Headphones, they just broke the headphones into 4 configurable elements and let their customers decide on what they want. Users can choose from three styles of headbands, four styles of ear pads, six varieties of cables, and four different speaker units.

For those who don’t know what they want or if they prefer to still let AIAIAI to make the decision on their behalf, the AIAIAI TMA-2 Modular Headphones are also available as special “Presets”. For example there is the Studio Preset (S03, E04, H03, C02) that are designed in collaboration with Grammy Award winning sound engineer Young Guru.

S03 refers to a fully sealed titanium coated speaker unit that is combined with an EO4 over-ear PU leather earpad for high isolation and greater comfort. H03 refers to a nylon headband while C02 is a coiled cable. It also comes with the option to lock the cable  to the speaker unit so it does not get accidentally pulled out while in use. Having a modular design also means that should any of the headphones’ components break, you can have it replaced cheaply instead of replacing the entire pair of headphones.
