Drones and quadcopters are very popular flying toys among enthusiasts and casual flyers. Sizes range from those that fit on the palm of your hand to those that are a few feet across. Prices too can vary greatly from those that costs less than $50 to those that can set you back a few thousand dollars. The JJRC H31 Quadcopter drone is priced at the lower end of the price spectrum but when it comes to features and quality, it does stand out a little more than the other “toys” that it is lumped together with.
JJRC is quite a well known name for low priced drones but the JJRC H31 Quadcopter is the first drone they have released in which they slapped on a “waterproof” label to. The waterproof claim can be quite confusing because we are left wondering what it actually means. So lets just get that out of the way.
The waterproof JJRC H31 Quadcopter can fly in the rain as it has a waterproof airframe. So if you are flying the drone and the sky suddenly opens up, you won’t need to scramble to get your drone back. Just calmly fly it back with a smug look on your face. If your poor piloting skills causes the quadcopter to take a dunk into the lake, it will probably survive that as well. But just to be clear, it won’t fly underwater like an underwater drone. Got it?
Taking the waterproof part out of the equation, the JJRC H31 Quadcopter is a very impressive drone and it has a fantastic feature to price ratio. For a drone that costs about $30 (available from GearBest), you get headless flight mode, one key return, multiple flight rate speeds and 360 degree flips. If you are new to drones and don’t know what those terms mean, it just means easy to fly, you won’t lose the drone and awesome acrobatic abilities.
The drone is powered by a removable 400 mAh battery which provides about 8 – 10 minutes of flight time. To extend your flying time, just buy more batteries.
While the JJRC H31 Quadcopter will largely be considered a toy by drone enthusiasts, don’t be fooled by its price as it makes a very good starter drone. It has most of the critical features that make flying fun instead of a frustrating exercise.
