Fully working computers the size and shape of a giant USB stick were quite a big hit a few years ago. They mostly ran on the Android OS and they plugged in directly into the HDMI port of a TV or computer monitor. A couple of years back, Intel jumped into the bandwagon with their own Intel Compute Stick that had Windows installed instead of Android. Since then, other manufacturers, mainly from China, have followed suit with their own take of the Windows PC stick and the MeegoPad T08 is one of the newest offerings.
The first version of the Compute Stick from Intel did not gain much traction because it was severely underpowered. Intel followed up with a more powerful version in 2016 that was powered by a 1.4GHz Atom x5-Z8300 CPU and 2GB of RAM. This version feels much more like a proper desktop computer and can even handle 4K video adequately. The MeegoPad T08 packs even better specifications than this Compute Stick. It has a newer Intel Atom x5-Z8350 CPU and RAM has been doubled to 4GB.
If you have ever tried using a Windows 10 PC with just 2GB of RAM, you no doubt understand how frustrating it can get. While things chug along just fine with just one or two apps running (or a browser with just a couple of tabs), things go quickly downhill if you try to do anything more.
Other specifications of the MeegoPad T08 include 802.11a/b/g/n WiFi and Bluetooth 4.0 and a microSD card slot for up to 128GB of extra storage. It also has 2 full sized USB ports for connecting USB peripherals like a mouse, keyboard or USB storage drive. What is even more interesting is that it has a USB 3.1 Type-C port on top of the 2 USB ports. This port supports DisplayPort technology which means with an adapter you can have a second display. Sweet!
One of the reasons why Android TV sticks are no longer popular nowadays is because most of us own Android smartphones that can do the same thing. Furthermore, Android is not really designed for displays without a touchscreen. On the other hand, there are many who will find a pocket sized Windows PC a very attractive alternative to lugging around a Windows laptop, even if it is one of those lightweight ultra notebooks.
For proper work, more often than not, a Windows PC is a must. And unless your work requires you to work with programs that require huge computing power like Photoshop or video editing, the Atom CPU in the MeegoPad T08 should be more than adequate for your needs.
