Can you buy a smartwatch for under $30? With smartwatches from brands such Samsung and Apple selling for more than 10 times that amount, it seems impossible. However, smartwatch manufacturer No.1 has proven us wrong with the No.1 G5 Smartwatch.

Surprisingly, while the No.1 G5 Smartwatch is no where close to a branded smartwatch like the Apple Watch or the Motorola Moto 360 in terms of features and capabilities, it performs much better than expected. After all, who would have expected features like a 1.2 inch OLED touch screen, stainless steel housing, sapphire crystal watch face and heart rate monitor on such a cheap watch?

The watch has Bluetooth and can be paired with either an Android or iOS smartphone. You can get notifications from your phone sent to your watch. At the same time, data captured by the heart rate monitor, pedometer and other activity data can be shared with your phone.

The watch is powered by an MTK2502 chipset and it has a 380 mAH rechargeable battery. With normal use, the battery can easily last an entire day before requiring a recharge. Charging is done via a microUSB port on the watch itself. No fancy wireless charging or contact charger but those features would have added a lot more to the product cost.

Also of note is that unlike many of the smartwatches from Chinese manufacturers, the No.1 G5 Smartwatch does not run on Android OS. This means that you won’t be able to install and run Android OS apps from the PlayStore. Neither would you be able to make and receive phone calls or send and receive text messages.

However, you can access your phone’s contact list and initiate a phone call using the watch. Furthermore, it does have popular smartwatch features such as multiple watch faces, controlling your phone’s music playback and using it as remote shutter button for your phone’s camera.

One other popular feature it does support is receiving notifications such as Facebook, Whatsapp and Twitter on the smartwatch. Users are able to quickly check their notifications without having to remove their phones from their pocket.
