Who can resist a perfectly toasted grilled cheese sandwich? It is the perfect comfort food. Two slices of crispy and toasted bread on the outside and yummy and gooey cheese in between them. While making a grilled cheese sandwich is not all that hard, you do have to watch over the stove as your sandwich is toasting. If you want to cheat a little, the Nostalgia Grilled Cheese Toaster makes the entire process as easy as toasting a slice of bread in a toaster. Don’t worry, the kids won’t know the difference and your reputation as the grilled cheese sandwich master will remain intact.
The Nostalgia Grilled Cheese Toaster not only works like an ordinary bread toaster, it looks like one too. There are two slots at the top for inserting the sandwiches. At the side, there are three buttons that control the heating mode (preheat, defrost and cancel) and a simple rotating knob that controls how melted the cheese gets.
The only big difference is that it comes with a couple of toasting baskets. These baskets are used to hold your sandwiches together as they toast in the toaster.
The baskets also allow you to include other ingredients in your sandwich besides cheese. You can try adding slices of ham or crispy bacon if you like. The bottom of the baskets help to catch any melted cheese or other bits that fall off your sandwich. In addition, the bottom of the toaster has a removable drip tray that catches anything the baskets miss out. It also makes cleaning up after an easy task.
There is a slight limitation to the Nostalgia Grilled Cheese Toaster design though. The baskets are not very wide and you cannot make a really thick sandwich with lots of stuff in between. On the other hand, the toaster is not really that high powered so you may have problems toasting a really thick sandwich anyway.
However, for a simple and comforting grilled cheese sandwich the way dad used to make it, the Nostalgia Grilled Cheese Toaster is more than adequate for the job.
