The best part about spending the day with my kids at the pool or at the beach is the quality time together with the family. The worst part? Having to spend half the time inflating the inflatable toys. By the time I’m done I’ll be so out of breath. Even an air pump is not that much help because it still takes ages. What I need is a device that can help me inflate everything with just a single breath and preferably it doesn’t require batteries. My prayers have been answered and that device is the Fluxbag.
The Fluxbag is the brainchild of Jens Thiel and it is currently seeking funding on Kickstarter to make this product a reality. This inflation device uses the same concept as the air lounger that are currently the rage nowadays. In fact, it even looks like a smaller version of the air lounger.
Like the air lounger, you first have to inflate the Fluxbag itself. The easiest way to do this is to open up the bag and with the wind behind you, let the wind fill up the bag on its own. If the air is still on the day, just hold the opening wide and scoop up some air and the bag fills up in no time. Next, you snap the opening shut and trap the air inside. Now you have a huge supply of about 200 liters of air to inflate as you like.
The Fluxbag comes with a valve on the other end of the bag. Attach that to whatever you wish to inflate from a float to an air mattress. Then press down from the other end of the Fluxbag and force the air through the valve. Multiple valve adapters are included for inflating all kinds of inflatables.
While not as energy sapping, deflating an inflatable can be quite a hassle as well. The Fluxbag detachable nozzle can be used to open up the non-return valve that is commonly used on inflatables. This lets you deflate at least twice as fast.
Last but not least, when you are done, the Fluxbag collapses and folds up to fit in the included storage bag that is only 3.5 x 7.5 inch big and weighs just 3.5 oz. You can even fit it in a large pocket. Try doing that with an air pump.
