Using the SteriPen Adventurer Opti Water Purifier is as simple as dipping the UV end into a water container and pressing a button. As a safety precaution, the SteriPen can only be turned on when the UV lamp is inserted into water as UV light can be harmful to your eyes for example. It takes about 90 seconds to treat 1 liter of water. One set of batteries should be enough to treat about 50 liters of water.
