Think old school. Old video game school that is. Do you prefer classic 8-bit and 16-bit video games over the new ones? If yes, then the Hyperkin RetroN 5 Gaming System is for you. This gadget is named as such because it has 5 cartridge slots for old school game cartridges – NES, SNES, Genesis, Famicom, and Game Boy Advance. You can play your original cartridge from any of these slots. In addition, it will also support cartridges for the Super Famicom, Mega Drive, Game Boy Color, and Game Boy.

The Retron5 comes with the standard AV output, a USB port for wireless charging, an AC adapter for power source, and a HDMI output for HDMI connectivity. The 80s graphic on the original cartridge is converted to high definition for a resolution of 720p using shaders. With the GUI, you can retain the standard 4:3 aspect ratio or convert to the high definition 16:9 ratio.

The Hyperkin RetroN 5 Gaming System features a universal chipset so you would not worry about regional compatibility issues. Its Bluetooth wireless controller allows a minimum playing distance of 15 feet without losing sync from the console. It features a Microswitch Directional Pad instead of the standard directional pad.

The Retron 5 features six face buttons, two shoulder buttons, a start and select button, which should cover all your button configuration needs. In addition, there are 4 LED light indicators for showing the player number, a Home button, and two programmable Macro buttons. It has a rechargeable lithium ion battery that can be charged through any USB port using the micro USB cable.

The Hyperkin RetroN 5 Gaming System comes with its own user interface for easy customization and some special features. While not allowed by the original system, the console lets players save their games at any point during the game. No more desperately trying to reach the next save point so that you can take a toilet break. During shutdown, it has an autosave feature.

Using the controllers on the RetroN and the original system, you can configure the buttons according to your liking and the RetroN saves these custom layouts so there is no need for reconfiguring them again. You can also control manual and passive overclocking so you can quicken or slow down the game depending on your liking. This is a heaven-sent feature as our reflexes isn’t just what they used to be especially when it comes to bullet-laden “shmup” levels.
