Hydrophobic coatings are not new but applying a hydrophobic coating on a fabric is difficult. Applying a hydrophobic coating on an apparel that has to keep its water repelling properties even after multiple washings is even more difficult. But it is something that the Cavalier Hydrophobic T-Shirt from Australian company Threadsmiths has managed to do.
Hydrophobic coatings use state-of-the-art nanotechnology to create a super thin layer of molecules that repel water. When applied on a T-Shirt for example, it makes the T-Shirt impervious to dirt and stains. Theadsmiths applied a hydrophobic coating on a 100% cotton white T-shirt to create the Cavalier Hydrophobic T-Shirt. What is amazing is that the T-Shirt is as comfortable to wear as any 100% cotton T-Shirt and is just as breathable.
The hydrophobic layer from Threadsmiths emulates the natural water repelling properties of a lotus leaf. The T-shirt contains no aerosols or dangerous chemicals and is perfectly safe for wearing. The Cavalier Hydrophobic T-Shirt is available in both men and women designs.
There are two things that we are dying to find out right now. The first of course is when will Threadsmiths come up with something other than a plain white T-shirt? The second, and more importantly, since it doesn’t stain, does this mean we never ever have to do laundry again?
